Taste of Chicago - Garrett's Popcorn

Garrett's Popcorn
Multiple Chicago locations

Scenario: You have been walking up and down Michigan Ave. You have strolled through the gardens at the Art Institute. You are hungry but do not want to ruin your dinner appetite or reservations. What do you do??? Get on that smart-phone and find the closest Garrett's popcorn. They are everywhere and trust me, you will know you are in the right vicinity when you smell the caramel and/or see the lines of people.

Garrett's have been around for over 60 years and serving up gourmet popcorn goodness to the masses. One taste and you are a fan. Each time I have gone to Garrett's, I walk out with the largest shopping bag. Friends and co-workers find out I am headed to Chicago and they start putting in orders. Lucky me!!! What a time I have with my own personal items, a load of popcorn and TSA.

My favorite Garrett's flavor is the caramel crisp. Who knew it was possible to make caramel popcorn taste so rich and buttery. My co-workers enjoy the famous Chicago Mix (cheese corn and caramel mix). If you have never had the mix, it sounds wacky but once you taste it, you will want more.

**A-List Tip - Do not let the lines intimidate you. They move quickly and so worth the few minutes. Hey, use that time to check your emails or people watch. Plus, Garrett's Popcorn was listed as one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2010. C'mon.....OPRAH!!!

Happy Snacking!!!!

Taste of Chicago - Orange with a Peel

Orange with a Peel
River West
730 W Grand Ave
Chicago, IL 60654
(312) 942.0300

Brunch is my favorite weekend meal. Not quite breakfast (too early), not quite lunch (OMG, I am starving!!!)...that perfect in-between meal, on a casual Saturday. And sharing my favorite meal with, some of my people, just tops off everything!!!

Orange with a Peel is a cute, contemporary style restaurant located in the industrial side of Chicago, off West Grand Ave. It is also walking distance to one of the largest Salvation Army's I have ever seen. Hello and high 5 for consignment shopping.

Orange with a Peel is "Home of Frushi" aka fruit sushi (see picture). Cute concept, right? Orange is all about fresh, locally grown products. The menu is filled with the savory and the sweet. Warning, the sweet options will have you in a sugar daze!!!

My recent trip to Chicago was not my first visit to Orange. I had the opportunity to dine there a couple months ago, with my "I can't take this cold" former Chicago resident friend and my mom. The food was good then and just as good the second go round. However, on my second trip, I did order one of the refreshing, signature juices (mango and ginger). Nice!!!

What did I order? I selected the "Build Your Own Scramble". I filled my scramble with yummy veggies and cheese...good stuff!!! My friends ordered items like the French Toast Kabobs, the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and Green Eggs and Ham (ah, Dr, Seuss!). Our table was full of yummy goodness and shortly after, our bellies were full.

How did we work off such a hearty meal??? We walked over to the super Salvation Army and shopped for a couple hours. Great start to our Saturday in Chicago.

**A-List Tip - Call ahead and make reservations. Orange on West Grand is not very large and they get packed pretty fast. No secret, the food is good and everyone wants a seat.

A Taste of Chicago - Fulton's on the River

Fulton's on the River
315 N. LaSalle Street
Chicago Illinois 60654
(312) 822-0100

(from the website)
Fulton’s on the River, located on the Chicago River with views of downtown, offers the best of both worlds. A classic seafood and steak house, with an unparalleled devotion to procuring nothing but the highest quality ingredients. Quality service and an extensive wine and cocktail selection provide a great place to dine, relax and celebrate!

On day two, of my girlfriends' trip/taste of Chicago adventure, we decided to have dinner at Fulton's on the River. Fulton's has all of the elements of the classic steakhouse; rich woods in the decor; cclassic lighting and an uniformed waitstaff buzzing around with cuts of meat. One of the signature features of Fulton's is the outdoor, on the river dining. As the sun sets, you have table candlelight and the shimmer from surrounding buildings to provide a very chic ambiance. Table for four, please!

Ron, our server was so amazing. He answered all of our questions, regarding the menu, and very accommodating to our needs. After I coveted a nearby table's lobster bisque, I decided to order my own bowl. Ron saw my mates eyeing my yummy bisque and surprised them with extra spoons. Lucky girls!!!!

Between the four of us, we ordered the crab cakes (two orders), the salmon and Fulton's signature steak. We shared creamed spinach, broccoli, potatoes and mushrooms. Needless to say, forks were flying everywhere. Yum, yum and yum!!!!

**A-List tip - If you enjoy a good steakhouse, make reservations at Fulton's. If the Chicago weather is merciful, request outdoor seating. Take your time...enjoy the meal and the view.

Taste of Chicago - Mercat a la Planxa

Mercat a la Planxa
638 Michagan Ave.
Chicago, IL 60605
(312) 765-0524

A couple weeks ago, I was in Chicago with some of my best girlfriends from college. We were doing our annual girlfriend trip and around to help one of the girls bid Chicago "adieu". She is a  warm-blooded southerner and one year in the windy city (and a historic blizzard) had her ready to back her bags and head back to milder temps.

As we have gotten older, getting together and planning these trips appear to get harder and harder. Little things like running businesses, writing novels, kids and conquering the world (lol) make it very difficult to sync schedules. So when we are able to successfully confirm a trip, we try to savor every minute of the 48-72 hours we may have with each other. Our two points for a successful girlfriends' weekend: lots of conversation and great food. Voila!!! Chicago, in the summer was the perfect place to accomplish both. The next few posts for A-List Lifestyle will be dedicated to my taste of Chicago. First stop, Merkat a la Planxa.

(from the Mercat website)
Take a culinary tour of Barcelona right on Michigan Avenue at Mercat a la Planxa, where Catalan-inspired cocktails and cuisine come to life.

Start with a round of sparkling Cava or a pitcher of fruity sangria before digging into Mercat's menu of traditional tapas, grilled steaks, market-fresh seafood, artisanal cheeses and cured meats.

Whatever your pleasure, Chef Jose Garces' mod-Mediterranean kitchen delivers a dose of Catalan soul straight to your table.

Mercat a la Planxa - Chicago's new Catalan destination

Who does not love tapas?? Raise your hand and then pop yourself in the head. Tapas are the perfect way to experience international flavor and share a meal with a table of friends. I was fresh off of a flight from Atlanta, elated to see my friends and ready to eat!!! Bring on the mini plates.

Dante was our server and did an excellent job explaining the menu and recommending dishes. He was almost too good; between four people our table was spilling over with dishes. Mercat teases you with a free order of their house flat bread. That was not enough...we ordered two more orders.

Here are some of the dishes brought to our table:
  • Patatas Bravas (Spicy Potatoes with Spicy Paprika Aioli) 2 orders
  • Mar I Muntanya I (Smoked Veal Sausage, Charred Baby Octopus, Arbequina Olive Potato Salad & Piquillo Vinaigrette)
  • Gambas al Ajlilo (Garlic Shrimp)
  • Mixto (Chef's Selection of Cheeses)
  • Calamari
  • Setas al Horno (Wild Mushrooms, Confit Potato, Shallot & Parsley)
The setas al horno/wild mushrooms were probably the best mushrooms I have ever had in life. Seriously, they were that good.

No surprise, my dinner mates and I were overwhelmed and overstuffed. What an experience?!?!?! The food was great, the service was perfect and I started off my taste of Chicago with a little Spanish flare!!!!

**A-List Tip - Go to Mercats with an open mind. You will be in good hands. Taste the menu and consider recommendations from the server.

Zagat's The 10 New Rules of Dining Etiquette

I would add "Be a Good Tipper". It shows appreciation and just plain good taste.

Do you have any tips to add to the list? Check out what Zagat listed as the 10 rules.

Article courtesy of Zagat.com

Chivalry is dead. Maybe that’s not so great. At least the old rules of etiquette were clear-cut and made life easy. For example, in yesteryear when dining, men did the inviting, held doors, chairs and coats for women, tasted the wine, paid the bills and gave the tips. Women in turn were supposed to be pleasant companions. Clearly things have changed since then. Here are 10 proposals for new rules:

1. EQUALITY
Women and men should be treated as equals. Still, a plurality of diners says that men are treated better than women. The explanation given is that men are more likely to pay the bill and tip. How dated can you be? She probably earns more than you.

2. PAYING FOR IT
Whoever initiates a dinner date pays. Long ago, women were handed menus with no prices on them. Nowadays, whoever did the inviting should be expected to pay for the meal, unless you’ve worked out another arrangement in advance.

3. ORDERING FOOD
Forget gender – people should order when ready. Sorry, Emily Post, but gone are the days when women were expected to go first. Since menus can be long and complex, regardless of your sex it’s a courtesy to order first and buy your tablemates a bit more time to decide.

4. HANDHELD VICES
Do not talk, text, tweet, e-mail or surf the web at table. It’s rude, say 63% of diners. A whopping 73% advise turning off ringers. If you have urgent business to deal with, step away from the table briefly to handle matters.

5. KIDS, KIDS, KIDS
It’s fine to bring children to dinner in most restaurants. But don’t do it at places where they’d elevate the decibel level or that are meant to be romantic. Zagat surveyors split over the age at which children should be allowed: 38% say from birth while the same percent argues five years or older. Tellingly, 61% believe restaurants should be able to ban children.

6. DRESSING DOWN OR UP
Dress casually. This is known as the “Los Angelization of dining.” Hardly any restaurants require ties and jackets anymore. Even the tiny minority that do won’t object if you put your jacket over the back of the chair. About the only rule left is “don’t be a slob.” Alternatively, you may want to “dress up” to impress your companion.

7. SERIOUS RESERVATIONS
Honor your restaurant reservations or cancel them on time. People should treat dining reservations as the important commitments they are. Holding an empty table for a no-show does real damage to a restaurant. If you make reservations and fail to cancel in advance, you’ll deservedly become persona non grata at the restaurant.

8. OK, NOW GET OUT
Don’t overstay your welcome at a busy restaurant. To clarify: Take your time and enjoy your food, wine, conversation and after-dinner treats. Nobody should ever feel rushed. Interestingly, 60% of Zagat surveyors nationally support restaurants setting time limits on tables during peak hours. Remember, next time you may be the one waiting in line.

9. LONG LIVE CHIVALRY
Men go through doors first, and then hold them open for women. We know, we know. This is the one rule of chivalry that will never die, even if it’s been updated (men used to allow women to go first). Bottom line: two people can’t go through a door at the same time. So to the women out there who find this notion antiquated, please, humor these poor men. Let them get the door – they’ll let you get the bill or walk on the outside once out on the street.

10. REMEMBER YOU’RE THE CUSTOMER.
And the customer is always right. Too often customers feel they are being judged by the wait staff. That’s exactly wrong. Short of berating the waiter, you should expect to receive hospitable, efficient service and good food at any restaurant. If that doesn’t happen, take your money elsewhere and tell the next 10 people that you meet.

Hotels Acting Like Airlines With Extra Fees

Oh no, say it aint, so!!!! Please check out this list and your upcoming travel itineraries!!!

Article from HotelChatter.com

Whee!! Summer is officially here and you've got the urge to book a flight+hotel (or two or three) for a summery getaway. But while we've all begrudgingly accepted that airlines are extra fees-obsessed (baggage fees, leg room fees, change fees, security fees, early boarding fees, etc.), we're disheartened to see that more and more hotels are acting like airlines these days by charging big fees for little extras.

Here are five of the top offenders so far:

5. Fontainebleau: The good news is that it looks like this popular Miami Beach hotel has dropped their $8 baggage fee in case you want to store your luggage after check-out but before your flight home. The bad news is they are charging you $150 for incidentals when you check-in. Yup, they automatically charge you $150 before you even step foot in your hotel room.

Now, if you don't charge anything to your room during your stay, the charge will be released at check-out but will take five to seven days to appear back in your account. If you don't have a credit card at check-in, you will be asked to fork over $600 in cash. Then you will be refunded the money via a check in the mail sometime after you check out. Seriously. You can read for yourself here.

4. Kimpton Hotels: Lately, Kimpton has been emailing its Kimpton InTouch reservation-holders with an option of upgrading their room choice for $19, if there's availability. The name of the program is called eStay Upgrade Program which sounds as if it was a leftover idea from a United Airlines marketing brainstorming session.

Kimpton calls it a Win/Win incentive since the guest gets to experience a nicer room for a nominal fee (remember, if it's available) while the hotel gets some additional revenue on a room that would otherwise go empty. We understand that but can you make the name of the program sound less like an airline standby program (that never actually lets you fly standby)?

3. Thompson Beverly Hills: Drinks atop this Beverly Hills hotel are nice, especially on a clear day but is it worth the automatically added service charge? No. Perhaps if the service was quicker and also up front about the charge (a simple, "Thanks for visiting. Here is your bill and don't worry, a service charge has already been added in for your convenience") then perhaps we wouldn't have minded.

2. Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa: This hotel may be popular for its location to Legoland in San Diego but it certainly doesn't win us over with its $12 resort fee and $50 early check-in fee if you arrive before 4pm and want to get situated immediately (as one TripAdvisor reviewer was shocked to learn.) Oh and that ocean view room will cost an extra $40.

1. Caesars Entertainment Group: Formerly Harrah's Entertainment Group, Caesars runs some of the major casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City like Caesars Palace and Paris Las Vegas. Yet while they tout their "No Resort Fees" policy all throughout Sin City, they actually charge a processing fee for reservations made over the phone. Last we heard, it was about $10 for each reservation. This is totally an airline move as evidenced on Airfare Watchdog's airline fee chart which lists airlines that charge for reservations made over the phone.

Two Urban Licks - Atlanta, Georgia

Two Urban Licks
820 Ralph McGill Blvd,
Atlanta, Georgia 30306
ph: 404.522.4622

Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity. ~Voltaire

Atlanta, Georgia is a foodie's city. Gone are the days, for being known only for southern staples, like cornbread and sweet tea. Do not fret, honey child, Atlanta still has plenty southern cooking establishments however, more diverse restaurants are gaining ground and collecting awards. Some of the best steak houses, Italian, Indian, Greek, fusion this, that and the third can be found in this southern city.

Do you have the taste for good American food, with a little trendy flare? You must visit Two Urban Licks. TWO is located within the downtown Atlanta area. The building is raw and edgy. The lighting is low and moody. If you plan on eating there on the weekend, call and make a reservation. TWO has been an Atlanta hot spot for quite some time so, prevent long waits and plan ahead.

Two Urban Licks is set up where the kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant. The smell of wood fire grills fill the air. You can request a seat, at the bar, around the kitchen. Watching the chef and staff work their magic is a TWO highlight. The menu has small plates and are great for sharing. There are also plenty of entrees and salads.

Make your reservation and let me know what you think? Or, is TWO already your favorite?? Please share your experience.

Sophisticated Boutique Hotel: Amalif Hotel - Chicago, Il

Amalfi Hotel
20 West Kenzie Street
Chicago, IL 60654
ph: 312.395.9000

“My first day in Chicago, September 4, 1983. I set foot in this city, and just walking down the street, it was like roots, like the motherland. I knew I belonged here.” - Oprah Winfrey

Chicago has a few tag lines: the windy city, home of the original gangsters, home of the Obamas and let's not forget the other O...Oprah Winfrey.

If you are planning a leisure or business trip to Chicago and interested in staying in a downtown boutique hotel, check out the Amalfi Hotel.

A luxury boutique hotel located in downtown Chicago’s River North district, the Amalfi Hotel Chicago offers the ultimate in modern style and hospitality. Boasting a central location near Michigan Avenue and the Loop, the Amalfi is a distinguished downtown escape for both business and leisure travelers. Discover the perfect blend of elegant design, luxury amenities and attentive service at a hotel designed around the guest experience. - Amalfi Hotel website

As soon as you step into the hotel lobby, you know you are not checking into a hotel chain. There is nothing cookie cutter or mass produced. The decor is sleek and modern. The lobby chairs are over sized and the accent rugs are bold. The chandeliers are not your grandma's chandelier. The waterfall next to the registration desks give off that spa zen. And the hot jazz playing softly through the speakers accessorize the fedora wearing bellman.  Oh yes, A-Listers, walk into the Amalfi Hotel and you are stepping into cool.

The rooms are furnished to fit your either your business or personal needs. You have to love complimentary wi-fi throughout the hotel and iPod docking stations in your room.

This is so cliche' but I have been saving the best for last. I could not wait to share my favorite two amenities. First, the Amalfi has a complimentary Manager's Reception, every evening, with appetizers and drinks. The bartenders serve high quality liquors and manage the lounge-like area.
My second favorite Amalfi amenity is the complimentary breakfast. This breakfast is not like most hotels where you have to put on a pile a clothes, stand in line in a lobby dining area and wait for milk for your cereal. If you are not the cheerful morning person, that is not the way to start your day. The Amalfi sets up breakfast on every floor. Oh, what a treat!!!! Thank you's and kudos to the staff who set up and break down that many breakfast areas, everyday.

**A-List tip - If you are able to make the Manager's Reception, try the two signature drinks: the Amalfitini and the Sorrento. These two cocktails are light and delicious. The bartenders have ingredients cards so you can experience these cocktails at home.

Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are. ~Chinese Proverb

Who does not love a visit to the spa? I mean, you walk in and immediately are hit with that smell of sandalwood and/or lavender. You hear chimes, ocean waves or trance-like water noises coming from the speaker system. All of these sensory treats are there to trigger your body to slow down and turn off that cell phone. For a moment, you are allowed to forget about what was said in last week's meeting or that email sitting in your draft box. A spa day is all about you, you and oh yes, YOU!!! Are you ready to book that appointment?? Allow me to assist you in selecting a perfect spot of zen.

Atlanta is home to one of the top spas in the country. The 29 Spa is located on the third floor, inside The Mansion on Peachtree.

Redefining skin and body care, 29 was created by Lydia Mondavi, a fifth-generation Atlanta native, to embody the enterprising American spirit, the magnificent colors reflected in every season and the mystery and luxury that is Napa Valley. With the opening of 29 Spa at The Mansion on Peachtree, skin care and understanding come together in a spa experience that combines beautiful benefits with the blissful art of relaxation and expert care. - from the 29 Spa website

The 29 Spa is designed so you are not rushed in and out. When (not if) you book your appointment, give yourself at least an hour before and afterwards, to enjoy the complimentary amenities. Even if you are not an overnight guest, your spa appointment gives you access to the hotel gym and pool. Imagine a 50 or 80 minute massage after a great workout. Not in the mood for much action, have a seat in the sauna, steam room or hot tub and sip a glass of orange water or the complimentary wine before your mani/pedi.

Have you blocked off that time to visit? You are living an A-List Lifestyle and deserve a little luxurious pampering. I promise, you will leave the 29 Spa and feel renewed, refreshed and ready for the world.

**A-List Tip - So busy that you have been neglecting friends and unable to catch up with chit-chat?? Take your bff with you to the 29 Spa.

The Westin Charlotte, NC

The Westin Charlotte
601 South College Street
Charlotte, North Carolina 28202
ph: 704.375.2600

“Anyone looking to experience the down-home charm and character of the South should head to Uptown Charlotte. The fine dining, world-class accommodations and phenomenal arts and culture scene that define the thriving Uptown district reflect the softer side of North Carolina’s ‘Queen City.’” - American Eagle Latitudes – Uptown Charlotte: A Spirited Art Enclave

Looking to visit a big city in the south? I am sure your list of options is short. Do you have Charlotte, NC on there? Well, do you?? If not, please add it. Charlotte is quickly carving out a strong identity in the south and swaying a lot of the young, educated and hip from Atlanta. Imagine that...

Uptown Charlotte is the city center. Buzzing with high rises, businesses, restaurants and a vibrant social scene, Charlotte is getting the attention of some pretty influential party planners. The 2012 Democratic National Convention confirmed and headed to Charlotte. The CIAA Basketball Tournament has made Charlotte home for quite a few years. And when you have a NFL stadium (Charlotte Panthers) sitting right there in the middle of the city, looks like Charlotte has the secret sauce in quickly becoming a southern city powerhouse.

Now that you have a few good reasons to visit Charlotte, North Carolina, top it off with a great hotel. Make your reservations at the Westin Charlotte. This Starwood property is centrally located to everything and place for your ideal Charlotte experience.

The guestrooms are spacious and the beds are divine. One of my favorite features are the huge windows that seem to outline room. I am one of those travelers who open the curtains as soon as I check-in. I need to see where I am...scope out the view. And the Westin Charlotte does not disappoint. A large window accessorizes the bed's headboard and makes it easy to watch that quiet sunset; oh so city chic!!
Before you checkout, start at least one morning with an amazing breakfast, at the Westin's Ember Grill. Breakfast, by far, is my favorite meal of the day and I do not believe in rushing through a well laid out buffet. Sit down, slowly sip your coffee and/or juice and savor each bite. The grill staff will take great care of you.

*A-List tip - Get the best view with those large windows. When making your reservation, request a room on a high floor.

(From the Ritz Carlton Buckhead website)
The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead is setting the standard for elegance. With impeccable attention to detail, each of The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead hotel’s luxurious rooms and suites are inspired by the timeless appeal of Southern gardens and provide guests with an exceptional array of amenities. Located in the city’s finest neighborhood, this Atlanta-Buckhead hotel is four miles from Midtown’s cultural epicenter and nightlife.

In the mood for old school luxury and southern decadence? Make a reservation at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead in Atlanta. As soon as you pull up to the front door, you are greeted with poised valet, ready to get you started on your stay. The lobby is covered in rich wood grains and classic furniture. Stop for a second...look around and take in the elegance of the layout. Adjust your shades on top of your head and embrace your VIP-ness.

The guests rooms are lush and equipped with everything you will need during your stay. Whether it is wi-fi, nightly turn down service or the signature plush robe, the Ritz amenities are enough to make you hide out in your room all day. However, that is impossible since the property is literally, in between two of the best shopping locations in Atlanta; Phipps Plaza and Lenox Mall.

Ok, so here is my favorite part of the Ritz Carlton Buckhead... afternoon tea!!! Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!!! If you have never taken the time and enjoyed a proper afternoon, I strongly suggest you add it to your "to do" list.

And because I have the best friends on the planet, my Ritz Carlton tea time was a full out, bridal tea party. It was absolutely fabulous. My guests and I enjoyed our private, afternoon tea decked out in big hats, pearls and pretty dresses. The tea servers were amazing and our personalized menu was full of teas, savory bites and delicious sweets. The experience was priceless and the location was classic.

*A-List tip - Request a corner room, facing Peachtree Road. The views are amazing and you get a little more space. Also, make sure you take afternoon tea!!!

One of the most enchanting destinations in the United States, Savannah is adorned with extraordinary architecture, lush botanicals and charming city squares. --Historic Tours of America

Savannah is one of my favorite cities to visit. I love strolling along River Street and the short drive to Tybee Island. Savannah is definitely a southern gem that is shadowed by a history of slavery and war. When you plan a trip to Savannah, bring your cute sunglasses, comfy shoes and a healthy appetite.

When I visit Savannah, my hotel of choice is the Hilton Savannah DeSoto. Location is ideal for anyone who wants to be right there in the city center. Once you are checked-in, there is no need to move your car. Walk out the front door and you are minutes from River Street The rooms are newly renovated and can accommodate basic amenity needs. Most of the room-views are toward the city squares but it does not hurt to ask the front desk staff for "a room with a view".

*A-List tip - The DeSoto Grill has a delicious breakfast buffet. Do not go there in a hurry. Take your time and enjoy the meal!!!

In my mind, I've always been an A-list Hollywood superstar. Y'all just didn't know yet.

 - Will Smith

From the hotel website:
The Beverly Hilton has combined the excitement of Hollywood with the elegance of Beverly Hills for over 50 years. With the completion of a $80 million renovation, the Beverly Hilton emerges as a beacon of modern luxury.

The Beverly Hilton is "oh -so-Hollywood"!! This Hilton branded property is home to many annual red-carpet events (Golden Globes) and the set of as many movies and tv series. The opulence of this hotel greets you as soon as the sliding doors open. The tailored front desk staff are friendly, quick and efficient.

Spending a little time in Beverly Hills? The Beverly Hilton is the ideal location. Smartly situated at the intersection of world-famous Santa Monica and Wilshire Boulevards and a mere three blocks from Rodeo Drive, The Beverly Hilton is just minutes from Hollywood, downtown and the beaches.

Confession: My favorite part of the hotel is the bed. I know, I know...with such a historic landmark and elegance all around, how does bed find its place in this post?? Ladies and gentlemen, the beds at the Beverly Hilton are pure luxury. After my first night and a very restful sleep, I openly professed my love for that bed and wanted to know who manufactured such slumber deliciousness. I jumped up and pulled back the fitted sheets and looked for a label. Aha..."Sealy's The Beverly Hilton Plush...Made Expressly for The Beverly Hilton". How super chic??? They have pillow-top mattress made just for hotel. Love and got to have it!!!

*A-List tip - Have breakfast by the gorgeous pool side. Let the sunshine accompany your juice and toast. The set up is dreamy and the perfect backdrop for those vacation pictures!!!

Couples Tower Isle - Ochos Rios, Jamaica

Vacations used to be a luxury, but in today's world it has become a necessity. ~Author Unknown

Jamaica - home of Bob Marley, delicious rum, jerk chicken and some of the best all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. Understand, not all all-inclusive resorts are created equal. It is important to do your research, read online reviews and consult with travel professionals, on your needs and the amenities offered at these resorts. If your checklist consist of  sun, relaxation and a little pampering throughout the day, look into Couples Tower Isle.

Couples Tower Isle in Ochos Rios definitely falls in the category of top notch, all-inclusive resorts. From the moment you unload off of the resort airport shuttle, you are greeted with chilled a glass of rum punch and a pleasant "yeah, mon". The front desk staff is amazing and are quick to make sure you start your vacation, immediately. The backdrop of the lobby is the ocean, which blends nicely with the Greco white and blue tile. While you are caught up in the moment and just taking in the sights, smells and sounds, a bell person will take your luggage to your room...no worries!!

The resort has an array of grills, bars and restaurants. If your vacations are about eating, drinking and being merry then you will love Couples Tower Isle. Whether it is breakfast in bed, a snack by the by the pool or a candlelight dinner for two, this resort has it all. They even have a Veggie Bar for those with a vegetarian diet.

The rooms are spacious with flat screens and iPod docking stations. I would suggest reserving an ocean front or ocean view room. Watching the sun either rise or set is part of the vacation. The resort spa is located in a tranquil garden area. Take a moment, walk around and enjoy the lush, well kept vegetation. The hot tub and steam room are complimentary to resort guests but there is a fee for additional spa services. If you have the time and the extra cash, book a massage. It is worth it!!! Also, reserve some time and take advantage of the activities. Most are included in your fees but there are some that have a small cost. Make sure you visit the concierge and check for activity fees and reservations.

Engaged and interested in a destination location?? Couples Tower Isle is known for their destination weddings. I had my New Year's Eve wedding at the resort and could not have asked for a better experience. The wedding coordinator and the entire staff made sure my day was perfect.

And speaking of New Year's Eve, this resort knows how to bring in the new year. When the sun sets, every staff member is involved in the venue transformation. There is a rooftop cocktail hour, steel drum performers, singers, dancers and beautiful lights that line the pool. Name it and you can probably find it on the super-sized buffet. There was an entire room just for desserts. Noise makers, tiaras and hats are given to guests, as the countdown to another year is yelled by everyone. Do not look for those room keys just yet; 12:01am means the party is just getting started!!!

Overall, Couples Tower Isle is an ideal all-inclusive resort. It is perfect for those traveling to Jamaica for the first time.

*A-List tip - Sign up early for activities. They fill up quickly!!

Happy travels!!!
